The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. It was first perceived as an abomination by the Parisians for sticking out so much, but now is known around the globe as the most famous landmark in the world and the symbol of Paris. It stands 320m high (1052ft) and weighs 7.000 tons. Today, it's houses to millions of tourists per year and is also used as a communication tower for local TV and radio stations.
